PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Plastic carrier tape reels are used to support and organize wound carrier tape during storage, transportation and automated component handling. The reel provides the mechanical structure required to keep the tape properly wound and protected while allowing controlled unwinding during downstream packaging or feeding processes.
This product is supplied as an empty plastic reel unless the quotation specifically includes carrier tape or other packaging materials.
REEL SIZE AND TAPE MATCHING
A reel should not be selected only by its outer diameter.
Carrier tape width, pocket depth, tape thickness, required winding length and equipment interface all affect the appropriate reel configuration. Flange spacing must provide sufficient clearance for the tape while limiting unnecessary lateral movement during winding and unwinding.
The related carrier tape series covers widths from approximately 8 mm to 88 mm, but individual reel configurations should be confirmed for the selected tape rather than assuming one reel design fits the entire range.
MATERIAL AND ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
Plastic reels can be produced using different resin and electrical-performance grades depending on the application.
Color alone should not be used to determine whether a reel is conductive, antistatic or standard insulating plastic. If ESD performance is required, the electrical specification and applicable test method should be agreed separately and supported by documentation for the selected material.
The carrier tape and reel should also be evaluated independently because their electrical requirements may differ.
