Cover tape is a key component in electronic packaging. It is a strip film used in conjunction with carrier tape, primarily for sealing and protecting the SMD electronic components housed in the pockets of carrier tape.

 

It typically comes in the form of transparent plastic film and can cover integrated circuits, SMD inductors, transformers, capacitors, resistors, connectors, shielding cans, and other SMD/SMT surface mount components. The substrate of cover tape is mostly made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polypropylene (PP) film, with different functional layers (such as antistatic layers and adhesive layers) coated on the surface. By means of pressure or heating, cover tape can be firmly sealed to the surface of carrier tape, forming a closed space. This effectively protects the internal components from contamination, electrostatic damage, and physical harm during transportation, storage, and mounting processes.
